St. Saviour's is in the heart of Eastbourne, between the
shopping centre and sea and offers both a welcoming and
fascinating visit.
The architect George Edmund Street RA designed many churches at
the time when the Church of England was rediscovering its
Catholic heritage through the Oxford Movement. The design of
the St. Saviour's emphasises the centrality of the eucharist,
surrounding the altar with glorious decoration in the form of
colourful mosaics and fine stained glass windows set among now
tempered brick neo-gothic.
The
teaching
and liturgy are firmly established in the Catholic tradition of
the Church of England
as handed
down from St Augustine and his successors. St. Saviour's is a
'Forward in Faith'
parish.
